Erasmus + Mobility

Slovenian language courses are offered by many language centres in Celje, Ljubljana and Maribor.

Academic year at ISSBS is divided in 3 trimesters, each lasting for 11 weeks or approximately 3 months. Academic year starts on 1st October  and finishes on 30th September.

Academic calendar of ISSBS defines examination periods, lectures-free days, holidays and certain important events at the faculty.

There are usually not more than two courses carried out in each trimester. Each trimester is followed by an examination period during which there are at least two examination dates for each course, carried out in that trimester. This kind of approach enables students to study continuously during the year,  which consequently enhances durability of acquired knowledge.

Minimum exchange period is 3 months or approximately one trimester in which student will, coinciding with one of the trimesters, listen to two or  three  courses.

The student applying to ISSBS must be enrolled at his/her home higher educational institute (faculty). Applications and related documents for the exchange must be signed by the student’s home instituion’s International Office.

Nominations
If you want to conduct a part of your studies at ISSBS, your home institution must nominate you. After the accepted nomination, the mobility coordinator of ISSBS will send the application documentation with all the instructions considering the study process, housing, visa (if necessary), insurance etc. ISSBS makes selections of foreign Erasmus applicants during the whole year.

After the nomination, the following documents must be sent by student’s home International Coordinator to ISSBS International Office:
1. Application form for Erasmus international students (via e-mail or land mail)
2. Learning agreement
3. One colour photography (passport-type)
4. Curriculum Vitae in English

Application documents must be sent until the end of application dates. During this registration procedure, you should cooperate with the International coordinator of your home faculty. All necessary forms can be found on the ISSBS website.

Subject for Erasmus students 
There is a list of selected subjects, which are offered in tutorial way in English language. They are selected each academic year and published on this site. The selected subjects for 2019/2020 are available here. Erasmus students can also attend all the Slovene courses.

Confirmation of your registration 
Student’s acceptance will depend on the number of places available. The ISSBS International Office will send the Confirmation letter to the International coordinator of your home faculty. After this a Learning agreement is to be confirmed and approved between the Erasmus student, student home institution and ISSBS.

ISSBS reserves the right not to accept admissions of exchange students if application arrive after deadlines when the number of applications exceed places available for exchange students. The International Office of ISSBS will notify it’s decision to the applicant’s International coordinator around mid-July, mid-October or mid-December.

Acceptance of mobility
In case of acceptance, ISSBS will send an official Acceptance letter to the applicant’s International office. The letter will indicate the date when the student must arrive at ISSBS, all the the necessary information the student needs and all documentation he/she has to bring with him/her.

All study programmes, accredited after April 2004, are measured in credit points according to ECTS (European Credit Transfer System).

The European Credit Transfer System – ECTS was developed by the European Commission and it defines the evaluation of students’ workload in a form of credit points. Higher education in Slovenia has become evaluated with credits as a part of the Bologna reform. The purpose of unified European credit system is to achieve comparability of different study programmes and to enable mobility between higher education institutions in Slovenia as well as internationally. ECTS is based on actual students’ workload, transparency of study programmes and students’ success. (Criteria for credit assignment to study programmes according to ECTS, Official Gazette of Republic of Slovenia, no. 124/2004, 19. 11. 2004)

Every year at ISSBS is evaluated with 60 credits and every trimester is evaluated with approximatelly 20 credits.

ISSBS: One credit point represents 25 students’ working hours; one academic year last 1500 students’ working hours.

Currently, courses for Erasmus students are available only in the tutorial way (in English), but you can also attend the regular classes in Slovene language. During the consultations with the professor students will be informed about its content and English literature they should study. You will also get all relevant information about required assignments (short and longer written papers), exams and grading system. All the professors know how to speak/write English, so communication with them is not going to be a problem. All the ISSBS students also speak very good English. Students can attend Slovene language course while living and studying in Celje.

For active involvement and participation at the classes students should be at least a B2 level (intermediate) of English language proficiency within The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The 19th article of the Statute on examination and grading of International School for Social and Business Studies defines five examination periods. Three of them follow each trimester and two of them take place during so called summer and autumn trimester. There are at least four examination dates for each course during the academic year. Students can take an exam after they fulfilled all the requirements defined by the curriculum.

Students are graded on the basis of their exam results and short and longer papers they have written as a part of their course. Such grading system enables a better review of each student’s knowledge.

Grading system

The pass grade is 6. Students can take the same exam three times without having to pay for it. The following exam sittings are payable.

International opportunities 2019/2020 and 2020/2021

1.1 Strategic internationalization guidelines

Internationalization strategy of the International School for Social and Business Studies (ISSBS) at the mobility development follows the guidelines as laid down in the long-term vision of the faculty. The strategy in this area especially emphasizes the development and implementation of quality and internationally oriented education and the promotion of research and its international involvement. The faculty aims to become internationally recognized for its academic quality and social responsibility. ISSBS’ internationalization strategy is, accordingly, focusing on:

1) strengthening the scope of international education and training,
2) the integration of foreign higher education teachers and students in teaching and research activities of the faculty,
3) transfer of knowledge and experience of foreign experts in the ISSBS’ and Slovenian environment and Savinjska region in general,
4) strengthening interdisciplinary education and training, and
5) the development of an international network of higher education institutions to promote research and development activities and the strengthening of international reputation of the ISSBS.

With its offer and implementation of research and development and study programmes in English, and consequently with the search and selection of partners, ISSBS focuses mainly (but not exclusively) in Central, South and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the Mediterranean.

1.2 Achievements in the field of internationalization

ISSBS offers contemporary first, second, and third cycle study programmes:  first cycle programmes Economics in Contemporary Society and Business in Contemporary Society, second cycle programmes Management and Quality in Education and Knowledge Management, third cycle programme Knowledge Management. In particular, doctoral programme is interesting for the international environment, and it has, therefore, been conducted in English and promoted in strategic markets in the last years. Study programmes in English represent a good starting point for preparation of joint degree programmes. Programmes prepared for implementation in in English are also adapted to the implementation in the e-environment.

The faculty is also a member of the International Federation of Universities EMUNI and is with its activity particularly active in the EUROMED region. With strengthening of these activities, ISSBS will continue in the coming years, and in this context through bilateral or multilateral meetings and cooperation conclude into new partnerships for the future transfer of knowledge and best practices in education and research.

ISSBS pursues its internationalization strategy is through various other educational and R&D activities, and with them expands the international network of partner institutions and involvement in the international environment. These activities are mainly:

• organization and development of the annual international scientific conference MakeLearn & TIIM,
• coordination and development of the international publisher ToKnowPress with issuing of the International Journal of Management, Knowledge and Learning and scientific monographs,
• strengthening international contacts with foreign higher education institutions by carrying out international mobilities,
• applications and implementation of R&D projects in cooperation with foreign partner institutions,
• obtaining and maintaining international accreditations/evaluations (eg. from Austrian (AQA) and Croatian (AZVO) national agency for quality in higher education). 

2 Institution’s strategy for the organisation and implementation of international (EU and non-EU) cooperation projects in teaching and training

The ISSBS exercises its internationalization strategy by:

• providing domestic students (at all cycles of study) access to international knowledge and experience and to compare them with the domestic academic and business environment,
• encouraging the exchange of knowledge and research experience between guest teachers and ISSBS higher education teachers and course professors,
• facilitating further development of the faculty’s educational activities and strengthening its integration into the international environment and cooperation with foreign partner higher education institutions, so that it will become more attractive for both domestic and foreign students,
• facilitating access to international knowledge in higher education teachers and co-workers of ISSBS in the key areas of study at the faculty, and by enhancing the quality of education,
• preparation of courses and programs in the English, including in the e-environment.

2.1 Strategic goals in the field of international projects and participation in education

 The ISSBS exercises its internationalization strategy by:

• applying and participating in international research and development project,
• inclusion in the international publishing activity,
• internationally oriented education through the involvement of foreign professors in the implementation of study programmes, carrying out trainings of foreign experts for various target groups, and inclusion of foreign students in courses (including summer school),
• developing and implementing parts of study programmes (eg. courses) and complete programmes in a foreign language, and by planning the implementation of these programmes for students from the geographical backgrounds mentioned in the previous paragraphs.

3 Participation in the Programme on the modernisation

Participation in the Programme will significantly contribute to the achievement of strategic objectives of the ISSBS, while also achieving objectives deriving from the five priorities:

1. Graduates’ and researchers’ achievements. Participation in the Programme will allow comparison and matching the level of knowledge and potential outcomes arising from the study programmes and courses at ISSBS, to the knowledge and learning outcomes that are provided by study and training programmes in foreign institutions. This will be done through teacher mobility and knowledge transfer between domestic and foreign teachers, as well as students.
2. Improving the quality of higher education through mobility and cross-border cooperation. With the participation of foreign teachers ISSBS will strengthen the quality of the existing study programmes and further intensify their international dimension, which is one of the key strategic directions of the ISSBS. By carrying out projects which involve mobility and cross-border cooperation ISSBS’ involvement in the local as well as international environment will be strengthened, and in this way realize the strategic objectives related to social responsibility of the institution. With these activities ISSBS will also gain access to foreign students, which is one of the most important strategic goals of the faculty, as it wishes to independently implement programmes for foreign students.
3. Integration of education, research and business sector for excellence and regional development. One of its most important ISSBS’ strategic priorities is its social responsibility, especially in terms of contribution to the local community and the local economy. By participating in the Programme, ISSBS will be given the opportunity to contribute in its environment relevant new knowledge, quality education and training, as well as opportunities for partnerships in research and development activities. By participating in the Programme integration between domestic and foreign teachers, researchers, business people and students as future entrepreneurs, teachers and researchers will take place.
4. Improving the governance and financing. Participation in the Programme will facilitate the implementation of most of important ISSBS’ strategic directions in terms of financing and management, some of which have already been mentioned in the previous text.
